Delicious treats turn Pooh into a happy bear at Balkasar Bear Sanctuary

During winter, one of Balkasar Bear Sanctuary’s resident bears, Pooh, had to be in necessary quarantine. He had plenty of open spaces to forage and play, but he was grumpy as he couldn't get his paws on his favourite winter treats. But you stepped in and helped turn his frown upside down. 

Take a look at how you helped Pooh the bear go from ‘grumpy’ to ‘happy’:

Thanks to your support, our partners on the ground gathered Pooh’s favourite treats, including delicious wild berries and insects, especially termites. This made Pooh very happy and helped improve his health.

Our partners at Balkasar Bear Sanctuary, said:

“Pooh is simply all smiles as he gets his paws all over the food. He likes to scratch his paws with the wood of the structure which means it normally requires repairs, which the staff loves to do for him. Pooh was a grumpy bear but he has changed positively. His health parameters are all well.”

Balkasar Bear Sanctuary, supported by World Animal Protection and the Bioresource Research Centre (BRC), provides a safe haven for rescued bears like Pooh. These bears have been rescued from cruel practices like bear baiting and bear dancing.
